One of the things we’ve learnt over the years of coaching Bootcamp is that almost everyone has days when they don’t feel like exercising. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been training for ten years or you’ve only just started – those days happen to all of us.
Sometimes there are genuine reasons why we can’t make it. Family commitments, work, illness, injuries and holidays are all part of life, and there will always be times when exercise has to take a back seat. We completely understand that, and nobody should ever feel guilty about putting those things first when they need to.
But if we’re being honest, there are also plenty of occasions when the biggest barrier isn’t life getting in the way – it’s ourselves.
We’ve all had those conversations in our heads.
“I’m tired.”
“I’ll go tomorrow instead.”
“One missed session won’t matter.”
The problem is that one missed session can quite easily become two, then three, and before long you’ve drifted away from your routine. A routine that was making you feel healthier, stronger and happier.
What we’ve found interesting over the years is that we can’t remember anyone leaving a Bootcamp session saying, “I wish I’d stayed at home.”
In fact, it’s usually quite the opposite.
People arrive after a long day at work looking exhausted. They tell us they nearly didn’t come. Then an hour later they’re chatting away as they head home, smiling because they pushed themselves, caught up with friends and did something positive for themselves.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about that feeling. You know you’ve done something that’s good for your body and your mind. You leave with more energy, a clearer head and that sense of achievement for simply getting it done.
We genuinely believe there’s no better place to experience that than outdoors. There is something about training in the fresh air that a gym just can’t replicate. You finish the session feeling like you’ve really accomplished something. Being surrounded by people who encourage you rather than judge you makes a huge difference too.
As coaches, we’re passionate about helping people achieve their goals, but we know that results don’t come from one amazing session. They come from consistency. They come from making exercise part of your life, even when you don’t particularly feel like it.
That’s why we always encourage our members to protect their routine, especially over the summer. Holidays are important, and we absolutely want you to enjoy them. Spend time with family, relax and recharge. But when you’re home, try not to let your fitness routine disappear completely. Keeping even one or two sessions in your week will help you maintain the habits you’ve worked so hard to build. It will also make it so much easier to carry on when summer comes to an end.
The reality is that we’ll never be able to promise perfect weather, endless motivation or a life with no competing priorities. What we can promise is that every time you come to Bootcamp SE16, you’ll be welcomed by coaches who genuinely care about your progress. The community of people who are all there for the same reason – to become a little fitter, a little stronger and a little healthier than they were yesterday.
The hardest part really is showing up.
Once you’ve done that, we’ll take care of the rest.
