Meal Prep your way to a healthier and cheaper diet

Around this time of year we can feel the need to tighten the purse strings and meal planning is a fantastic way to not only ensure you eat healthily but also on a budget!

Planning and preparing meals and snacks in advance can save you time and reduce stress around mealtimes.

Meal prep can also help hit your calorie intake and protein goals for the day, along with helping you to reach and maintain a healthy body weight.

Here are our Top Tips on to eat healthily on a budget:

✔️Create a meal plan  for the week using up ingredients you already have and make a shopping list of any missing items.

✔️Try not to do your food shop when hungry!
✔️Skip meat at least once per week and substitute it with healthy alternatives such as beans or mushrooms.

✔️Eat leftovers for lunch. For example if you cook a whole chicken have it with rice and veggies one evening then have the leftovers for a chicken salad for tomorrows lunch!

✔️Frozen fruit and vegetables are underrated. They come pre-chopped and ready to use, are just as good for you and are often cheaper than fresh varieties especially when they are out of season!

✔️Pulses, such as beans, lentils and peas, are some of the cheapest foods on the supermarket shelf. These pulses are low in calories and fat but packed with fibre, vitamins and minerals.

✔️Think about cheaper and healthier alternatives, such as sparkling water and fruit juice instead of cola, or fruit and plain yoghurt.
