Resisting temptation over the festive period is impossible, right? WRONG!

There’s 33 days to go until Santa comes. In an ideal world, that would mean 33 days of healthy eating and exercising before one happy day of indulgence.

But we all know that’s not true – the run-up to Christmas often involves multiple mince pies, boozy trips to the pub and indulgent three course dinners.

So what’s the best way to stay on track with your fitness, keep your weight down and make sure that December is not a time to regret?

Home help

If you’re stocking up on Christmas goodies for the festive season, you’ll have all of your favourite treats under your own roof, which makes them really hard to resist.

Accountability is key when treats are always right under your nose. Have your housemate or partner hide your favourites and tell them that you’re not allowed to indulge. It’s okay to have someone help in your efforts – it really will make a difference.

Also telling people you’re watching your weight and focusing on getting fit will hopefully discourage your family and friends from buying you any calorific gifts, taking you into January temptation-free.

Treat yourself

Nothing is more miserable during the festive season than saying no constantly. Don’t go into December thinking that you can’t enjoy a single treat. You’ve worked hard for the year and deserve to enjoy all this season has to offer.

The key is not losing yourself and forgetting your boundaries in the process, and this is much easier to do when you know you can indulge once in a while.

Try this approach – depending on your goals, take it one day or one week at a time. Use treats as a punishment or reward, so if you make it through the day sticking to your boundaries, allow yourself a reward at the end of the day. If you fall off the bandwagon, though, forgo that little treat at the end of the day and get back on it again the next day.

Move more

Now, I know we’ve just told you that you can indulge and enjoy the season, but you’ve got to earn that right! If you know you’ve got a big night or you’ve over-indulged, then book yourself in for some extra Bootcamp sessions.

You can burn off some of those festive calories plus your well-deserved reward will feel even better if you know you’ve worked hard for it!

Drink clever

Alcoholic drinks are higher in calories than most people realise, containing seven calories per gram. This means that a pint of beer can have as many calories as a large slice of pizza!

Why not consider alternating your drinks? Having one alcohol drink, followed by a glass of water or lower calorie soft drink can save you those empty calories.
You can do it – we believe in you!
