September restarts your training in SE16

The Bootcamp SE16 group with tyres and kettlebells after a September challenge session

September is the easiest month of the year to restart training, because everything around you is restarting anyway. The holidays are over, the schools are back, and the loose shape of summer gives way to a week that actually has a timetable in it. That is the moment to put yourself back on the list.

The last eight o'clock sunset has been and gone. Evenings at Stave Hill get darker and the air gets sharper, and at Bootcamp SE16 that is usually when the best training of the year happens.

Why September beats January

January gets the headlines, but September has better conditions. The ground is still dry, the mornings are still light, and a goal you set now has three clear months to run before Christmas rather than three weeks of good intentions. The people who start in September tend to be the ones still training in March.

The September challenge

Most Septembers we run a challenge every Monday through the month. The same test each week, and the only score that matters is the one you set last Monday. You are not competing with the person next to you, who has a different job, a different body and a different week behind them. The point is to see, inside four weeks, that steady work changes something measurable.

Why stay outdoors as the evenings draw in

This is the point in the year when people start thinking about moving indoors to a gym. It is a fair thought, and it is usually a mistake.

Indoors you get headphones, mirrors, machines to queue for and forty people carefully not looking at each other. Outdoors at Stave Hill you get a coach who knows your name, a group that notices when you are missing, and daylight at the time of year when most of us are short of it. Having people expect you is what makes it work.

  • Coached sessions, so you are not guessing at technique or effort.
  • An easier and a harder version of every exercise, whatever your starting point.
  • Mornings and evenings, so training fits around work rather than the other way round.
  • From £9 a session, with no swipe card and no queue for the squat rack.

Bring someone with you

Think of one person who would like this and has been putting it off. A friend, a neighbour, someone at work who keeps saying they should do something. Get them to book a call with us so they can see it for themselves, because this is much easier to understand by trying it than by being told about it. Ask us about the refer-a-friend discount when you do.

Twelve years in SE16

We have been running sessions at Stave Hill since 2013, long enough that the park rangers know us and that members have made some of their closest friendships here.

The season is changing. Your training does not have to. Sessions run mornings, evenings and weekends at Stave Hill Ecological Park, around ten minutes on foot from Canada Water station and from Surrey Quays, and there is no better week to start than this one.
